In networking, Routing is defined as the process of transmitting data packets over the network by using an optimal path. As per my opinion, Network routing is one of the major terminology that is used in most of the organisations. It is executed over layer3 of the OSI model i.e. network layer. Therefore, network routing can be briefly categorised into Internet routing, PSTN routing and telecommunication network routing. At last, Network routing and switching is major concern for delivering data packets over the network in an effective manner.
Routing is a process of selecting optimal path through which packet can be securely and efficiently delivered. Routing protocols are used to route packet across the network. Routing protocol is a set of rules and regulations that router use to communicate between source and destination. Routing protocols deliver packets from source to destination by selecting optimal shortest path. There are two types of routing protocol namely- static routing protocol and dynamic routing protocol. Dynamic routing protocol further categorised into two types of distance vector routing protocol, link state routing protocol.
Switching is a kind of technique used for transmitting data between specific nodes on network. Switches can be used for creation of temporary network. There are three types of switching namely- circuit switching, packet switching, message switching. Further packet switching is categorised into two types such as datagram networks and virtual circuit networks
Routing is the method of processing packets across a network from host to host. Usually, it is carried out by the dedicated devices called as routers. Besides, the routing is used by the circuit switch networks, which is a circuit that is developed to record the duration of each message transmission. On the other hand, switching is a practice of directing data element or signals toward a particular hardware destination. With different formats switching may be implemented and can functions in vigorous ways within a greater network infrastructure.
