Two options are available to complete this assessment (Option A is a scenario-based where Option B is workplace based)
Option A – case study scenario
You have just accepted a job in your (future) professional capacity as a human resources manager for a privately owned correctional facility. Your role is to offer human resource management support to senior management within this facility. The role for the Centre has previously focused more on the traditional areas of human resource management and carried out the transactional activities and some traditional activities such as recruitment and selection, training and development and performance management. You notice quite quickly that the human resource management services provided by the small human resource team (including three personnel – you as the human resources manager, a payroll officer and a human resource administrator) to senior management have been very operational in nature.
However, based on the learning and readings undertaken during your recently awarded Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management, you recognise that things are not operating as strategically as they could be from a human resource management perspective.
Your role as the Human Resources Manager is to choose one article from topics 4-7 readings (two in total – but they must be from separate topics) and write a summary of the main points of each article, then critically analyse the article, and then discuss the implications of the article for strategic human resource management article for the correctional facility.
Option B – workplace-based project
Using your own organisation, and in the assumed role as a Human Resources Manager for your elected organisation, choose two articles from topics 4-7 readings (the selected two must be from different topics) and write a summary of the main points of each article, then critically analyse the article, and then discuss the implications of the article for strategic human resource management for your selected organisation.
