Reflective Journal / Learning Portfolio

A portfolio can be seen as both a product (a collection of documents, work records in a variety of mediums) and a process (a continuous and systematic approach to reflect on personal and professional experience and obtain feedback from this experience to support learning performance).

As a learning and assessment tool a learning portfolio:

Encourages ongoing reflection and emphasises the importance of critical reflection (Ross, 2009);

Encapsulates key aspects of their learning – successes and failures and;

Requires students to apply concepts or ideas to topics of which they have unique knowledge and/or experience;

Helps form an action plan for future learning;

Other learning considerations.

Choose a format that you feel comfortable to keep notes, sketches, diagrams, blogs created and other types of media you deem necessary. For example, a bound sketch book or diary or journal or a document stored in a cloud environment.

To be sighted by Lecturer prior to final submission. A skype discussion OR     attendance at the X1 hour weekly sessions is acceptable.

A minimum word count of 1,000 words is expected.

1.Reflective Journal / Learning Journals should include:
a.Title page
b.Introduction
c.Body of work
d.Statement of Reflection (How does my learning impact/influence my professional direction?)
2.Presentation slides (if chosen) must be no more than seven (10) slides in total (excluding picture slides).
3.Each slide can have up to five (5) lines of text with notations (for example, a mind map can support your slide).
4.Submitted individually in electronic form as a PowerPoint-­”processed file or video metafile or link to blog posting to www.turnitin.com
5.Students must use the prescribed text and other references where deemed necessary.
6.All in-text referencing must be in accordance with APA 6th Edition Referencing and Academic Writing Guide on Sharepoint.
