A system vision document is a document that defines the high-level scope and the purpose of the system or project. In the vision document, a clear statement regarding the problem and the solutions to mitigate those risks are defined. This helps in establishing the expectations for the system and helps in reducing the risks of the system. There are various phases or elements that need to be covered in the vision document in order to represent a correct statement of the system.

The outline to develop the system vision document

Introduction

In this section, the students need to provide the information for the entire System vision document, in which the students need to discuss the purpose, scope, definition, abbreviations and overview of the full document. In purpose, the student needs to provide the purpose of the vision document. The scope of the document like programs, projects, applications etc. must also be discussed by the students in this section. The outline of the vision document must be described by the student that what is included in the vision document and how the vision document proceeds.

Positioning

In this section, the students need to describe the business opportunity for the company that can be acquired by the company through the project. All the problems that this project will solve for the company must be included in this section. The problem that occurs in the company and the stakeholders who get affected by the problem must also be mentioned in this section. The product position statement in this documents communicates the intent of the applications and all the stakeholders that are related to it. Stakeholder and User Description

Before developing the system as per requirement of the stakeholders, it is necessary to figure out the stakeholders who will be involved in the system. In the stakeholder's list, it is necessary for the students to figure out the users who will use the system and the stakeholder community that will represent the system. The students must provide the summary of stakeholders, users and the user environment must also be discussed in this section.

Product Overview

In this section, the students need to provide the detailed and high-level view of products and its capabilities, the interface of the applications and system configurations. The students must include three subsections in this section such as:

1. Product Perspective:

   In this section, the students need to provide the information regarding the product in comparison to other products and the user environment.

2. Product Functions:

   In this section, the students must discuss the functionality of the system that how this new system will work in the user’s environment.

3. Assumption and Dependencies:

   
     In this section, the students need to provide the list of the assumption that will alter the vision document in case if there are any changes. In case if there is no operating system, then there will be changes in the vision document.

Product Features

In this section, the students need to provide the features of the new system which is introduced to the company. The features of the system are considered as the high-level capabilities of the system to perform the functions and deliver the fruitful result to its users. While providing the features of the system in the vision document, it is necessary for students to keep it general enough so that every person could understand the features of the system.

Constraints

In the constraint section, it is necessary for the students to provide the details of the many constraints that are related to the design or external constraints like operational or regulatory.

Quality Ranges

In this section, the students need to provide the quality ranges regarding the performance of the system, robustness, fault-tolerance and other dependencies of the system.

Precedence and Priority

In this section, the students need to provide the information regarding the priorities of system features.

Other requirements of product

In this section, the students need to verify another requirement for the system such as hardware and platform requirements for the system and performance requirement etc. There are several subsections in this section that need to be addressed by the students such as:

1. System requirements:

   In system requirement, the students need to describe the requirements of the system such as an operating system for hosting, configurations, peripheral devices and other related software applications.

2. Performance requirements:

   The requirements of the performance of the system such as the bandwidth of the network, accuracy, reliability of the system etc.

Documentation Requirements

In this section, the students need to provide a list of documentation that will be developed in response to the system. The installation guide for the users to install and implement the system must also be discussed in this system.
